For nearly two years, Ruth Rosenthal discreetly noted the words, phrases, and monologues uttered by Xavier Klaine during their daily lives and work sessions, which she believed to be the result of patriarchal mechanisms. Trusting only the filter of her silent anger towards the markers of male domination omnipresent in our society, she selected them and then asked Xavier to re-record them to use as raw material for this documentary show centered on their family of musicians. Winter Family then decided to show these mechanisms in the raw form of an anti-live lockdown show. Ruth then proposes a third way, distant, poetic, radical, and fluid, reminding us of the urgency of breaking free from the binary vision of Fathers, Winter Family draws on the example of its own nuclear family in an attempt to deconstruct the everyday mechanisms and banality of male patriarchy and offer the audience a female catharsis. Their daughter Saralei will try to help them with the weapons of her generation. Winter Family chooses to challenge not only male domination, but also the principles and theories of gender, essentialization, cultural appropriation,and cancellation, subverting the slogan of the genius African-American queer activist Marsha P.Johnson: “No Freedom for some of us, without Liberation for all of Us.”

Comment parler du patriarcat? Voici la question que se pose Winter Family pour sa prochaine création.
Il ne s’agit pas que d’une question de fond mais aussi de forme: comment se rapprocher du problème tout en s’éloignant de ses mécanismes fondamentaux tels celui de l’imposition d’une vérité posée de manière dominante par un regard surplombant, jugeant et donc en tout point « patriarcal »?
Il fallait donc accepter de perdre en souveraineté et de se lancer, humblement, dans une enquête intime prenant pour terrain premier les résidus patriarcaux qui demeurent dans la vie des artistes, dans leur fonctionnement familial, au sein de leurs procédés de création. Il ne s’agit pas ici de réécrire la Grande Histoire du patriarcat mais de la faire exploser en se plongeant d'abord dans les documents un peu honteux, pas nets, paradoxaux qui font la trame de nos quotidiens collectifs. C’est depuis ce sol sans gloire que Winter family trouve sa manière de « parler du patriarcat », sans surplomb ni cynisme mais par une attention donnée tout autant aux restes de ce dont nombreux sujets éclairés et progressistes pensent s’être débarrassés, qu’aux ingrédients nécessaires au chemin tortueux, non d’emblée victorieux, de l’émancipation et de la sortie de ce confinement perpétuellement imposé par notre civilisation.
